Festival Run for "First Position"

First Position is my baby. Written and directed by me. It's a big deal. It was completed in 2019 and I never really gave it its proper festival run. Recently I have had time to really do whatever I want to do. So I have decided to start sending it off to festivals. So far I have sent it to 5 festivals, and the first one to get back to me was Lacorne International Film Festival in La Courneuve. It won the semifinal for Best Inspirational Film and then it will go on to the final presentation in May 2022. Why apply it as an inspirational film? The whole message of the short is to keep trying. And follow that dream that you have. Because theres enough people in the world that will say no but you personally are your own motivation. I know it's easier said than done but work and determination towards a goal will lead you to what makes you happy. (And sometimes the journey changes or the thing that makes you happy...and that's ok!) And additionally, I made a story that highlights an inequality due to race and nepotism in the dance world (and many sectors of entertainment) that don't allow an equal playing field for every person. It's important to note that some people do have to work harder to be in the same position that their privileged peers didn't have to work as hard for. This is what this film is addressing and motivating those who are working hard to break into industries that are built against them and creating their own spaces.

I'll keep updating this post if any more festivals pick this up!

If you'd like to watch this film, it's under my video tab on my website!
